What Information Do We Collect?
In short: We collect information you give us, limited information from Google or Apple if you sign in with them, and some technical information collected automatically.
Information you provide
- Account details. Your email address and a password, or a Google or Apple sign-in. Passwords are managed by Firebase Authentication; we never see them in readable form. We use your email address for account-related messages and updates.
- Name. The name you choose to enter, which can be your real name or a nickname. We use it to personalize the app.
- Birthday (optional). We use it to unlock birthday features, such as a birthday sticker and message, and, as an age range only, to understand our audience. On the free plan your birthday stays on your device, except that an age range (not your birthday) is sent to Google Analytics. On a paid plan, it is also stored in your cloud backup.
- Gender (optional). We use it to customize your experience and, in aggregate, to understand our audience. On the free plan it stays on your device. On a paid plan, it is stored in your cloud backup.
- App content. On the free plan, your activities, reminders, pet, game progress, and settings stay on your device and are not sent to us. On a paid plan, we store your profile, pets, activities, and related data in the cloud (“cloud backup”) so you can restore it and sign in on other devices, together with your plan and subscription status.
- Photos you choose. If you choose a background photo, you select it through your device’s system photo picker; we do not access the rest of your photo library. The photo is uploaded to us only on a paid plan, as part of cloud backup.
- Stickers. When you export a sticker, its design and text are sent to our sticker server to create the image. We keep a record linking each exported sticker to the account or app installation that created it, to prevent abuse. On a paid plan, stickers you create are also stored in your cloud backup.
- Support requests. If you contact us from the app, we receive your message, your email address, and technical details such as device model, operating system version, and app version.
- Purchases. Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation of your purchase and your subscription status.
- Gift codes. If you buy, send, or redeem a gift code, we record the code, its status, the account that redeemed it, and when it was redeemed.
Please keep the information you give us accurate and up to date.
Information from Google or Apple sign-in
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, Google account ID, and profile photo URL. If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address, which may be a private relay address. See Section 6.
Permissions you grant
- Notifications. With your permission, we send notifications, such as task and water reminders and announcements about the Services, and schedule reminders at the exact times you set. If you allow notifications, we collect a push notification token and your app version so we can deliver them. You can change these permissions in your device settings at any time.
- Location. We do not request access to your device’s location.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and diagnostic data. Information about how you use the app, such as screens viewed, features used, sessions and their timestamps, crash reports, and performance data.
- Device data. Device model, operating system and version, language, app version, app instance and installation identifiers, and IP address.
- Sign-in security data. When you sign up or sign in, Firebase Authentication logs your IP address and device user agent to help prevent abuse.
- Approximate location. Google Analytics for Firebase derives an approximate, city-level location from your IP address. We use it only in aggregate to understand which countries and cities our users are in. We do not collect precise location.
This information does not, on its own, reveal your name or contact details. We use it to keep the Services secure and working, to fix problems, and for internal analytics.
Website visitors
When you visit kiboukin.com, our hosting and security providers automatically receive your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit (server logs). If you use a contact or signup form on the website, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address, and message. Our language plugin may remember your language choice, and our website analytics tool measures visits in aggregate. See Section 5 for cookies.
2. How Do We Use Your Information?
In short: We use your information to provide, improve, and secure the Services, communicate with you, and comply with the law. We may also use it for other purposes with your consent.
- To create and manage your account and to authenticate you.
- To provide the Services, including cloud backup and restore on paid plans.
- To personalize your experience, such as birthday features if you provide your birthday.
- To send notifications you have allowed, such as reminders and account notices.
- To send announcements, offers, promotions, and seasonal sales, only if you have opted in to promotions and updates. You can turn these off at any time in Settings.
- To respond to support requests and resolve problems.
- To ask for feedback about the Services.
- To understand our audience in aggregate, using approximate location and, if you provide them, age range and gender. We do not use this information to identify you or to show you advertising.
- To understand usage trends and improve the Services.
- To keep the Services secure, including preventing fraud and abuse such as misuse of stickers.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
- To protect anyone’s vital interests, such as preventing harm.
3. What Legal Bases Do We Rely On?
In short: We process your personal information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so under applicable law.
If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the legal bases we rely on:
- Performance of a contract. To provide the Services you request, including your account, cloud backup, and stickers.
- Consent. Where you have given consent, such as for notifications, promotions and updates, and optional details like your birthday and gender. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests. Where processing is reasonably necessary for our legitimate business interests and those interests are not outweighed by your rights and freedoms, for example to:
- analyze how the Services are used so we can improve them;
- diagnose problems and prevent fraud and abuse;
- send you service announcements about our own Services, which you can turn off at any time.
- Legal obligations. Where processing is necessary to comply with the law, such as cooperating with a law enforcement body or regulator, or establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.
- Vital interests. Where processing is necessary to protect your vital interests or those of another person, such as in situations involving a potential threat to someone’s safety.
If you are in Canada
We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (express consent), or where your permission can be inferred (implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time. In some exceptional cases, applicable law may permit us to process your information without your consent, for example:
- if collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way;
- for investigations and fraud detection and prevention;
- for business transactions, provided certain conditions are met;
- if it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim;
- for identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin;
- if we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be the victim of financial abuse;
- if it is reasonable to expect that collection with consent would compromise the availability or accuracy of the information, and the collection is reasonable for investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of Canadian law;
- if disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or court rules relating to the production of records;
- if it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which it was produced;
- if the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes; or
- if the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations.
4. When and With Whom Do We Share Your Information?
In short: We share information with service providers that process it on our behalf, and with Apple and Google when you use their stores or sign-in. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Do We Use Cookies or Other Tracking Technologies?
In short: We do not use advertising trackers. The app uses identifiers built into our analytics and crash-reporting tools, and our website may use cookies.
The app does not use browser cookies. Our Firebase tools use app instance and installation identifiers to measure usage, keep you signed in, and diagnose crashes. Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to maintain its security, remember your language and preferences, support basic site functions, and measure visits in aggregate. Where the law requires, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can control cookies in your browser settings. The Services do not display advertising, we do not use third-party advertising technologies, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
6. How Do We Handle Your Social Logins?
In short: If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive limited profile information from them.
You can register and sign in with your Google or Apple account. If you use Google, we receive your name, email address, Google account ID, and profile photo URL. If you use Apple, we receive your name and email address, which may be a private relay address. We use this information only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. We do not control how Google or Apple use your personal information, so please review their privacy policies.
7. Is Your Information Transferred Internationally?
In short: We store and process your information in the United States, which may be outside your country.
Our servers and service providers are located primarily in the United States. If you use the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, and possibly in other countries where our service providers operate (see Section 4). These countries may not have data protection laws as comprehensive as those in your country.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we protect these transfers using the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and their UK and Swiss equivalents) or another lawful transfer mechanism, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where a provider participates in it. These safeguards are included in our service providers’ data processing terms, and details are available on request.
8. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?
In short: We keep your information only as long as needed for the purposes in this Privacy Policy, unless the law requires otherwise.
- Free-plan app data (activities, reminders, pet, game progress, settings) is stored on your device only. We do not keep a copy.
- Account information (email address, name, user ID) and, on paid plans, cloud backup data are kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete your account.

- Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.

- Purchase records may be kept for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes for the period stated at https://kiboukin.com/delete-account.
When we no longer need your personal information, we delete or anonymize it. If that is not immediately possible (for example, because it is stored in backup archives), we store it securely and isolate it from further processing until it can be deleted. Backup copies are removed within 180 days after you delete your account.
9. How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?
In short: We protect your personal information with organizational and technical security measures.
We use appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the personal information we process. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat our security and access, steal, or modify your information. Withdrawing your consent. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by changing the relevant setting in the app or on your device, or by contacting us. This does not affect processing that took place before you withdrew consent, or processing based on other legal grounds.
Opting out of marketing. You can stop receiving offers and promotions at any time by turning off promotions and updates in Settings in the app, by using the unsubscribe link in our emails, or by contacting us. We may still send you service-related messages, such as account notices and replies to your requests.
Your account.
